Embossing Practice

Hello Hello Lovelies!

Today I wanted to share with you guys a beautiful card I made. Every card I make gets a little better each time and it really makes me happy to see the progress.

My hubby is always telling me, "Any broken pencil can make a masterpiece". I love this saying. Especially because craft supplies are not cheap. However, you don't have to have the latest and greatest, to make something beautiful. There are plenty of tips and techniques out there to be learned (or self taught/discovered) that don't include going out and spending all of your money! About a week or so ago I saw this video on Facebook, showing how to make and do your own monogram embossing. It was such an easy trick to learn as well.
In the video, the person takes a trimmed piece of paper with a letter cut into it. Then they used an unleaded pencil and traced the letter onto a piece of cardboard, traced over the indention in the cardboard with a leaded pencil and then proceeded to cutting the letter out of the cardboard with a blade. After the card board had been cut out they put their phone light on beneath a clear tupperware bowl to make a DIY lightbox. Using the lightbox the taped down the cardboard piece, laid a piece of paper over that and used the unleaded pencil to trace the paper over the cardboard letter and BAM! paper embossed. Just like that.
So I decided to give this technique a try on the card I made. Although, instead of using a cardboard that I cutout, I just used some stencils that I found in my garage! With that stencil, I was able to create the fancy wave looking border piece. Since I don't have any fancy printed card stock yet, or any fun things to use as borders, I created my own out of some scrap card stock and one of my pretty design looking stamps and added some rhinestones all over. Again, this was a fun and easy card to put together. Now I really can't wait to get some legit embossing tools.

My "Be Happy" card.

List of products & supplies used:

  • Recollections card stock in white and pastel teal.
  • Wood mounted "Be Happy" & "Brimmed Hat" stamps. Not sure what company.
  • Claire's nail jewelry rhinestones.
  • Recollections wood mounted decorative stamps. (Used for the top border piece)
  • Generic stencil set that I found. (for bottom border)
  • Memento black archival ink pad.

What did you guys think of my latest creation?
